Research Associate, ‘The Flow’ project

Contact: ilange [at] fgho.eu

Since 2023, I have been a research assistant in the digital history project ‘The Flow.’ Prior to that, I studied history at the University of Bremen, specializing in early modern Northern European shipping and trade history. I gained my first insights into Hanseatic research while working as a student assistant on the project ‘Zwischen Nordsee und Nordmeer. Interdisziplinäre Studien zur Hanse’.

In my doctoral project, I am investigating the Hanse’s policy of privileges on the basis of the Hanserezesse, combining historical research with digital methods. The aim of my work is to use methods such as handwriting recognition (HTR), text annotation, and quantitative analysis to determine when privileges were discussed as economic institutions and when as political instruments. I am particularly interested in how digital workflows are evolving and how they can be used to analyze complex pre-modern source collections.
