Topic

Digital editing offers a multitude of new possibilities for the representation and evaluation of historical sources. However, it is often difficult to get started in this field due to the multitude of possibilities, tools and resources. In cooperation with the CAU Kiel, the FGHO is offering a summer school on this topic to facilitate access to digital editing for newcomers and advanced users.

The summer school offers the opportunity to get to know common tools, standards and working methods of digital editing. At the beginning of the week, the focus will be on the software Transkribus for the digital transcription of historical manuscripts. From the middle of the week, other tools for digitally editing historical sources and texts will be discussed.

The contents will first be presented by experts experienced in teaching digital editions. Afterwards, the participants will try out the tools and techniques and apply them by means of concrete exercises. Participants are required to bring their own laptops.

At the end of the summer school, edition projects in various stages will be presented. The focus will be on the approaches and methods of the projects. The presentation of the projects – preferably at an early stage – and the exchange with the expert audience can be used to obtain feedback and suggestions and to discuss different implementation and solution possibilities.

Registration

For participation in the summer school, please send a short letter of motivation (½ page), indicating previous knowledge and contact points with the topic of ‘digital editing’.

For an application for a project presentation, we ask for an approximately 1-page project description, from which in particular the considerations for digital implementation can be seen.

Please send both your letter of motivation and any project description by email to hilfskraefte-wiso [at] histosem.uni-kiel.de.
