Summerschool 2022
»Assembling and Deciding: Processes of Will Formation on Day Trips in the Pre-Modern Era«
When? 22nd - 26th August 2022
Where? European Hanse Museum Lübeck
Who? Students, graduates, doctoral candidates
Topics
Gathering and decision-making were and are central and interrelated social processes. In the pre-modern formation of wills and decision-making of political actors, the diverse types of day trips decisively shaped the political-social events of pre-modern societies far beyond territorial borders.
The Lübeck Summerschool invites students, doctoral candidates and early career researchers to approach the question of how pre-modern decision-making processes functioned and how we can research their functioning.
In addition to the day journeys of the Hanseatic cities, the Confederation's Tagsatzungen, the Imperial and Imperial Cities' Days, Landtage as well as other forms of political day journeys are put up for joint discussion.
The one-week event consists of two parts: On the first days of the summer school, participants will learn how to work with databases. In the second part, starting in the middle of the week, we turn to qualitative source analysis and comparative evaluation. Participants will first learn about the event and the decision-making process through an introductory lecture. Afterwards, the typical tradition of the corresponding types of assemblies and decision-making processes will be discussed by way of example.
